Persuasions of the Heart

“I’ve been living with a shadow overhead,

I’ve been sleeping with a cloud above my bed”

“I’ve been watching but the stars refuse to shine,

I’ve been searching but I just don’t see the signs”

Where is my sunshine?
Where is my sunshine?

These are the words that best describe what is going through my mind then. Fake smiles and meaningless laughter helps from other people noticing it. Every now and then hoping for the sun to muscle its way over the dark cloud to shine its sunny rays into my life. A bit of sunshine would be nice for a change.

… And know that Allah cometh in between the man and his own heart … (Al-Anfal, 8:24)

So, the journey has begun. Physically I have arrived, but the heart and mind needs some persuading into. I didn’t have to seek further. The moment I stepped into the camp, the burden and the weight seemed to just disappear into thin air. It seemed as if I had entered into a totally different world. I quickly settled in with all of the participants. Friends old and new alike. Some of them came from the far north of Hokkaido and some even came from the horizons of Korea!

…And whosoever keepeth his duty to Allah, Allah will appoint a way out for him, (2) And will provide for him from (a quarter) whence he hath no expectation. And whosoever putteth his trust in Allah, He will suffice him. Lo! Allah bringeth His command to pass. Allah hath set a measure for all things. ( At-Talaq : 2-3 )

Ice Breaking!
Ice Breaking!

The first night was highlighted with us forming a circle for a little bit of ta’kruf . The unique part of it is that each and everyone of us had to form a question about themselves. And randomly select another person to answer it for us. You’d have to experience it first-hand to enjoy the spirit of the game. It was quite fun actually. Okey, I’ll share it with you all, what my question was.

Me: What was the first sport that I got involved in?

1. Gymnastic

2. Swimming

3. Total free flowing “Samba-style” football (a little bit exaggerated …hehe.)

They all got it wrong! Well, I won’t tell you what the answer is. “That’s for me to know and for you to find out” right?

When I told the answer and everybody burst into laughter! The cheeks reddened a bit. At least it broke the ice right? That night we slept well late into the night. We chatted as if we had known each other for ages. (I slept through half of the subuh kuliyyah as a result of this. hehe. )

SummerCamp>> Bukan kerna Nama

Bukan Kerna Nama’ is the theme used for this year’s program. The main topics that were presented was taken from the book “Apa Ertinya Saya Menganut Islam” ( Maza Yakni Intima’i Lil Islam ) written by Fathi Yakan. Ustaz Hasrizal used this book and the concepts of 7 habits of highly effective Muslims.( elaborated from the Stephen Covey book).

The concept is that we are Muslims not because we are born as a Muslims or not. Or not because of us simply having a Muslim name. But it is because we choose to be a Muslim! We chose to define and act as a true Muslim from all aspects. From our behaviour, to us believing in the future of Islam as leaders the way of life!

Highlight

  1. Eating in the “dulang

All of the food is put in the tray, each tray consists of 4-5 people. (But the boys with big appetites always seem to have the least number in their group. I wonder why? huh.).

JOM MAKAN!!!
JOM MAKAN!!!
Bace doa dulu sebelum makan=).

This reminds me of the schooldays. We ate together and establish a closer relationship with each other. You should try it now and again.

2. Fun activities.

4. Of course just listening to what Ustaz Hasrizal (Abu Saif) has to say is just priceless! I wouldn’t get bored even if I talk with him for hours at a time!Thank you for sharing and being with us. This experience will always be close to my heart!

Kusyuk Mendengar!

5. We sang together! (Boley wat album ni!)

To say the least, this is the best SummerCamp ever!

May we get the chance to see each other again soon.

As Abu Saif put it in his own very words,

Di akhir pertemuan, jangan diucap Selamat Tinggal
Bahkan ucaplah Hingga Bertemu Lagi
Seandainya tidak di bumi Tuhan
Mudah-mudahan di Syurga-Nya nanti….

Part menyanyi tu, lain kali kita minta Ustaz Hasrizal jadi tenaga pengajar kita =) .

Kesilapan ana sebelum program hari itu tidak terfikir nak buat nyanyian nasyid beramai-ramai dengan lebih baik dan terancang. insyaAllah, next program we do better.

    jazakumullah khairan kathira

  8. Sebenarnya, lepas doa Ustaz Hasrizal yang aku nangis-nangis tu, tiba-tiba bermain lagi Harapan PadaMu Subur Kembali dari TheZikr.

p/s: Tiba-tiba teringat Nasyeed Extravaganza (NEXT08) di Youtube.

  9. Very well written.

Masa baca entry ni, teringat senyuman manja yeh.

FYI, senyuman manja yeh merupakan salah satu trademark yeh di samping peace bengkok nya!!

  10. Salam

  13. alamak, ustaz lupa nak log off. marah ummu saif dibuatnya nanti.

  14. Salama’alaikum,
thank you for taking the time menjenguk blog saya yang tak seberapa. I agree with you that it is our duty to cleanse the misconception non-muslims (even among muslims) have about our beutiful religion that we choose.

Oh and seronoknya dengar kalian bersummer camp di Jepun. Moga satu hari nanti akan tiba waktu untuk saya experience those kind of experiences insyaAllah. Keep on writing and minta izin melink-kan blog awak ni di blog saya.

p/s: kalau ada kelapangan masa, share la main points hasil pembedahan buku kalian =)

  16. kehkehkeh.. Ustaz nak join ke? Ingatkan ustaz dah pencen bernasyid. Mana la tau ustaz pun rindu bergelanggang nasyid sekali masa tu. Hehehe..

Nanti next time, kita di Malaysia pula ya semuanya. Bertemu ustaz.

  17. y4ku24, Ustaz terguna username Ummusaif tu… 🙂

Yeh, nice reminiscence of SC2008, I’d seriously thought you would attempt your ‘silat john’, time stretching before kuliah Ustaz aritu.
